The breeze picks up and leaves a salty scent in the air from the ocean. Seagulls flutter to and fro while I sit on the beach basking in the sun. Now, there are tons of places out there that have an abundance of sustainable or eco-friendly practices. Having that part of your journey gives back to the lovely ocean and the beauty of nature. These destinations have sustainability and natural beauty harmonized together creating a giving experience for you and the environment.
Sweden – The Land of Nature
My Nordic haven sets the stage for sustainable travel. In Stockholm, there are lush green spaces like Djurgården that showcase the city's commitment to eco-living. Plus, you can quickly learn that they recycle just about everything! If you plan on traveling during the winter, then venture north to Abisko National Park and Kiruna. That’s where winter landscapes and Sami culture thrive sustainably. My personal favorite place would have to be Glasskogen Nature Reserve. When you’re here, there’s no reception in many spots and you get to feel completely off-grid. Rent a cabin or camp out!
Norway – The Wonders of the Fjords
Norway is a scenic wonderland, where fjords and eco-friendly practices go hand in hand. See the abundant amount of nature here and if you’re a hiker like me, then this is the place to be! Take on Pulpit Rock or try the oh-so-famous, Troll Tongue. Something that makes this destination stand out is the Norwegian fjords that all eco-conscious explorers enjoy. Bergen, with its commitment to renewable energy, epitomizes sustainable urban living. Plus, this city is surrounded by nature and has a lovely scenic route you can drive on that has loads of waterfalls. When my hubby and I took to the road to venture into Norway, I was left in shock at the beauty!
Czech Republic- Hidden Gem
Czech Republic (a.k.a Czechia) is a hidden eco-paradise. It has a commitment to sustainable tourism that helps keep its nature thriving. Prague's historic charm blends seamlessly with a growing eco-awareness. Besides that, if you go beyond the city, you’ll find Bohemian Switzerland's natural wonders. This place is breathtaking, and it supports local eco-friendly accommodations and initiatives. Spain – Lively But Eco-Friendly
Spain is known for its vibrant culture, which also strides forward in eco-tourism. Barcelona, amidst architectural marvels, fosters environmental consciousness. Head to the Sierra Nevada for natural beauty or indulge in eco-resorts in the Balearic Islands, showcasing Spain's diverse commitment to sustainability. There are many places throughout Spain where you can find just how much they care about nature.
Costa Rica – Eco-Conscious Getaways
Costa Rica is a tropical haven that takes an eco-friendly initiative towards travel and its environment. This Central American gem has lush rainforests, eco-lodges, and a commitment to biodiversity. Traverse the popular Arenal Volcano National Park or unwind in eco-resorts on the pristine beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula.
Each one of these destinations not only can take your breath away with its stunning landscapes but also gives you a peek into the power of responsible and eco-conscious travel. Explore, experience, and contribute to the beauty of our planet. It’s something you won’t regret!
