Becoming Your Own Idol with Kimberley Locke

She Rises Studios

Former American Idol contestant, Kimberley Locke isn’t looking to be further idolized by her loyal fans on red carpets but she is on a journey of introspection about self-love and healing. When we sat down for an interview the singer and talk show host opened up about learning how to better communicate with herself to fulfill her own needs - and it’s clear she’s willing to do the work.

Locke has held many roles after her American Idol stint. She was a Celebrity Fit Club contender, a co-host with Food Network Celebrity Chef Emeril Lagasse, a model and spokesperson for Jenny Craig. But fame and fortune isn’t what defines her. She lights up when she talks about women becoming more in tune with their life’s passions. Locke agreed to appear on my Telly award-winning program "Rise With Hanna Olivas" exclusively seen on FENIX TV. We had such a great time. She shared some of her most intimate experiences about her personal relationships to her difficult choice to leave law school to go to the next level of American Idol.

Growing up in Tennessee, Locke had no idea that her singing voice would take her to the heights it has so far from her number one song, 8th World Wonder to many other top charting hits. Locke started singing in the church at the age of 5. Her parents divorced when she was eight years old. As I chatted with Kimberley I found her to be humble, quirky and just very down to earth. Throughout the interview we had so many laughs but she also went deep - sharing her struggles with weight and self esteem and her decision to speak with a therapist.

Self-love and becoming her own idol is where Kimberley is focused. “I am learning how to hold space for myself for the first time,” she said. An introvert at heart she now confidently says " I believe I'm my own 8th World Wonder". As our conversation continued, she shared how God has been her guide through it all since she began singing in the church.

When Kimberley opened up about her relationship with VH 1 Celebrity Fit Club host and trainer Harvey Walden, who she dated for two years. Locke recalled her struggle with having to lose weight on national television. Although challenging she never gave up. Her tenacity and perseverance just amazed me so much.

Kimberely was a spokesperson and model for Lane Bryant and she says it was the best job she’s ever had because she met and communicated with women all over the country. She’s looking to do more speaking engagements where she can continue to connect with women about self - love, body shaming, becoming your own idol and more!   WATCH KIMBERLEY'S FULL EPISODE HERE: www.bit.ly/klockefenixtvapp
