My story involves a secret gambling problem that tore apart my family.

I have three children and understand the juggling a professional mother is expected to do, performing well at work, providing for, and enabling your children to achieve the best they can in their lives, while running a household, etc. My story involves a secret gambling problem (disguised as ‘trading’ on the stock market) that tore apart my family a number of years ago.

The most painful part of our family history was the convincing lies I was told, the horrific shock of us unexpectedly losing our home! Plus, the reality of the situation we suddenly found ourselves in. Also, further down the line (once some form of clarity was allowed to exist) I eventually discovered all the equity from the sale of our London property and ALL our savings had gone! We had nothing due to this hidden gambling addiction.

I was totally devastated, deflated, lacking in confidence, utterly confused with the situation but with a desperate, animalistic need to provide for my children. They were in shock of having to relocate and leave their school and friends behind with no notice, no goodbyes. At that point in my life, I was definitely in ‘survival’ mode. It was an incredibly challenging time, a real wake-up call to my existence, however, the important things in life started to become very clear to me. Sometimes with trauma comes great clarity….

Over the next few years, as a single parent, working full-time and the challenges of online teaching as a Head of Art (during Covid), I recognized my ‘stuckness’, which felt like waves of overwhelm.  I started listening to high-performance podcasts and pursuing personal development, reading as much as I could, attending live online workshops, and seminars to figure out who I am and where I am going.

At this point, I stumbled across coaching! This taught me incredibly powerful tools, which enabled me to push through fear and recognize my thoughts. It shifted my thinking and beliefs, and I developed enormous resilience. It enabled me to listen more to my inner voice, reclaim my self-confidence, and go on a journey of transformational thinking.

From this experience, I had a calling to help other women who feel stuck and overwhelmed juggling their career and family life and all the expectations that are put upon us as women and mothers by society today. I knew I had to help professional mothers who, despite being ambitious, intelligent, high achievers when juggling this alongside motherhood, still do not quite feel they are quite enough. With this in mind, I developed and created 'The Thriving Method.' It uses powerful coaching tools that enable you to become aware and clear on where you want to be, recognize limiting beliefs within a safe space, shift your mindset, build deep confidence and self-gentleness along with self-acceptance. Plus, it encourages you to carve time out for yourself, allowing your brightness to shine alongside surrendering to the truth that you do not ‘actually’ need to be perfect.

I have learned and developed these tools through experience and practice. If you feel stuck and overwhelmed and would like guidance on how you could shift your thinking and mindset, in order to go from ‘surviving to thriving’ by developing deep self-worth, conquering overwhelm, and building confidence, I would love to share it with you. www.sarah-jane-mulcahy.com
