Carrie Wehunt
My name is Carrie Sokolowski Wehunt, and I am the proud mother of three wonderful children: Dalton, Hayden Claire, and Grayson. I have dedicated 29 years to education, teaching a variety of subjects including first grade, science, library, physical education, and sign language.
Throughout my teaching career, I have also coached numerous middle and high school sports, as well as Battle of the Books teams. Athletics have always been a significant part of my life. I was a three-sport athlete at Juniata College and was honored to be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in October 2013for softball, field hockey, and women’s basketball.
In addition to teaching and coaching, I spent several years as a trainer with Burn Boot Camp, where I empowered women to become stronger both mentally and physically so they could live life to the fullest. My background also includes sports conditioning for varsity athletes and children of various ages.
I absolutely love spending time with my children—coaching, assisting, and cheering them on in all they do. I owe my accomplishments and life achievements to God, my family, and my friends.
Why Storytelling Matters to Me
I care deeply about storytelling because a story changed my life. During one of the darkest seasons of my life, when I was overwhelmed by heartbreak and uncertainty, I experienced what I believe was God's gentle reminder that I wasn't alone. A dragonfly landed on me in a moment when I desperately needed hope. Since that day, dragonflies have become a symbol of faith, healing, and God's presence in my life. That experience taught me that stories aren't just something we read—they're something we live. They help us make sense of pain, find hope, and realize that someone else has walked a similar path.
What Drew Me to Publishing
I have always admired strong women. I come from a long line of resilient women who have faced life's greatest challenges with courage, grace, and unwavering determination. Their stories are filled with moments of pain, perseverance, and hope, teaching me that even our hardest seasons can shape us into stronger, more compassionate people. Throughout my own journey, I have found incredible encouragement in the wisdom, strength, and friendship of other women. There is something powerful about women lifting one another up, sharing their stories honestly, and reminding each other that we are never alone.
My Belief in Visibility and Women’s Voices
I believe visibility matters because it reminds us that we are never truly alone. So often, women carry the weight of many roles—mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, caregivers, leaders, and friends. In the midst of caring for everyone else, it's easy to lose ourselves and believe we're the only ones facing certain struggles, doubts, or challenges. Visibility isn't about being seen for recognition; it's about allowing your story to become a light for someone else. When women openly share their experiences, expertise, and faith, they inspire one another to rise stronger, heal more deeply, and believe in what's possible. Our stories have the power to build community, encourage resilience, and remind every woman that her voice matters and her journey can make a lasting difference in someone else's life.
How I Support Aspiring Authors
I guide aspiring authors by first reminding them that every published book begins with a single idea. I've walked that journey myself, filled with unknowns, uncertainty, and moments of wondering if I was capable of finishing what I started. Because I've experienced those emotions firsthand, I can encourage others with empathy and confidence every step of the way. Writing and publishing is rarely a straight path. There are moments of excitement, self-doubt, revisions, and waiting. It takes time, patience, and perseverance. That's why I often tell authors to trust the process. Every chapter, every edit, and every obstacle is part of creating something meaningful. More than anything, I want authors to know they don't have to walk the journey alone. I strive to provide encouragement, honest guidance, patience, and unwavering support from the first spark of an idea to the moment they hold their finished book in their hands. Seeing someone discover the confidence to share their story with the world is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do, because I believe every story has the power to impact someone's life.
