A Legacy Built in Small, Meaningful Moments

For a long time, I thought legacy was something you looked back on. Something defined by accomplishments, titles, or milestones reached at the end of a career. Over time, I’ve come to understand legacy differently. It’s built quietly, in everyday moments, through the choices we make and the values we live by.

Today, legacy feels deeply personal to me. It shows up in how I spend my time, how I raise my children, and how I choose to create work that feels meaningful. As the founder of Scandinavian Hearts, my work centers on preserving heritage, strengthening family connections, and passing down traditions through storytelling. I write children’s books and design products inspired by Nordic culture, not just to celebrate the past, but to help families feel connected in the present.

One of the experiences that most reshaped how I show up for others was living and working abroad in Denmark after college, followed by returning to Norway years later with my children to reconnect with our family roots. Those experiences slowed me down in the best way. They taught me the importance of presence, of finding joy in simple rituals, and of noticing the beauty in everyday life. Walking through small towns, sharing meals, listening to family stories, and watching my children experience where they come from changed how I lead, parent, and create.

That journey helped me realize that impact doesn’t have to be loud or fast to be meaningful. Some of the most powerful moments are the quiet ones. Reading a book together before bed. Hanging a small heart in a window. Sharing a story that sparks a conversation between generations. These are the moments that stay with us, and they are often the ones that shape us the most.

The legacy I am intentionally crafting is rooted in connection, culture, and presence. I want to show that it’s possible to build something successful while still protecting what matters most. I believe work can support family life instead of competing with it. That success can include joy, love, and space to breathe. And that a meaningful life is often built through small, intentional moments rather than big, visible achievements.

If I could offer one piece of advice to anyone building a meaningful life, it would be this: let your values lead, and give yourself permission to slow down. Pay attention to what brings you joy. Notice the little things.

Those moments are not distractions from success, they are the foundation of it.

When we build lives that feel aligned, rooted, and full of heart, the impact naturally extends beyond us. It reaches our children, our families, and people we may never meet. That kind of influence doesn’t fade. It lives on in the stories told, the traditions kept, and the love shared in everyday life.
