Staying Mentally and Physically Aligned
Sleep hygiene is very important to me, especially the busier and more stressed my calendar and life are. It starts in the morning for me - I wake up early and often, the sun has not risen yet. So, the first thing I do is open my blinds, shades and turn the lights on so my body knows it is daytime.
Meditation or quiet time with myself is what comes next, followed by some organic coffee and cuddle time with my cat. Most days I will read or listen to podcasts for 15-30 minutes.
A connection to my community, mom, friend, colleague is also a daily practice.
Being out in nature is extremely important to me. Pretty much daily, rain or shine, I am walking, biking or paddle boarding. I try to do these activities with a friend or do a work meeting while walking. This helps me check off the box connection with the community box.
I will take 15 minutes to give gratitude to and for the beautiful people, experiences, and abundance (food, shelter, clothing, electricity, water, community, etc.) that I have in my life.
I practice generosity and grace by reminding myself throughout the day that everyone around me is doing the best they can, with what they have, including me.
When I find myself in a negative headspace, I practice mental fitness.
Nourishing, healthy food and lots of water.
Finally, I get to bed so I have an opportunity for a minimum of 7 hours of sleep.
DISCLAIMER – I am not always perfect at this, so I give myself grace when I fall short.
Balancing Growing a Business and Protecting My Personal Vitality
Growing a business and protecting my personal vitality has become non-negotiable for me. I learned early in building my business that working all hours of the day, night and weekend will ruin important relationships, especially the one with myself. That behavior got me extremely sick physically, and mentally.
In today’s world, with technology on us 24/7, we get the impulse that we are always available for work.
The melodic ding of a text, email or call, has us always “on”.
Now, I have boundaries with when work starts and when work stops. This is extremely important so that I can schedule fun times and have adventures that bring me joy. I also know that my daily routine is necessary for my vitality. Of course, strength training twice a week with the High Intensity Safe Strength Training methodology keeps my body AND mind strong and resilient. It is also non-negotiable.
Lessons on Sustainable Success and Health

I have learned that discipline is the key to success. Making commitments to behaviors that will get me to my goals is imperative. Then, having the discipline to do those things, even and especially when I don’t want to or feel like it, will bring small wins for my future self. Those small wins keep me motivated to keep working towards my goals.
Every year, I write a letter to myself of how I want to be at the end of the year. I will extrapolate the behaviors I will need to do to realize the future self in my letter. I write down the behaviors as goals and then commit to them with a “no matter what” commitment.
