Building Santu Beauty: A Journey Rooted in Culture, Care, and Connection

I was born and raised in South Africa, where resilience and hard work were woven into everyday life. After finishing high school with honors, despite being told by a teacher that I would never make it through, I went on to study for two years, earning both a diploma in Health and Skin Care and an international diploma. That early experience taught me a lesson that has stayed with me ever since. The only person who can decide what you achieve in life is you. When you have a goal and believe in yourself, everything becomes possible.

For the past 17 years, I have been immersed in the wellness industry, continuously expanding my knowledge, refining my craft, and sharing what I have learned with others. Education has always been at the heart of my journey. To me, beauty is not something you simply see. It is something you feel. True wellness comes from understanding the body, respecting it, and nurturing it from the inside out.

My path as a founder is rooted in both culture and connection. I have always been a natural entrepreneur, driven by a desire to build, uplift, and create meaningful impact. About 15 years ago, my life took a pivotal turn when I moved to Mexico after falling in love with the country. It was in Troncones, a place rich in culture, nature, and healing, that everything truly aligned. Troncones invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with yourself. It was there that the idea for our self-care brand was born, and where I met my co-founder, Alicia. That moment became the foundation of everything we have built since, rooted in love, intention, and respect for ritual.

Over time, my definition of beauty has evolved. I have always been drawn to natural beauty, but my perspective has deepened beyond the physical. Beauty is emotional. It is mental. It begins with self-acceptance. When we learn to embrace who we are, we create space for inner harmony, and that harmony naturally reflects outward. Beauty is not about transformation. It is about alignment.

One simple ritual that grounds me and supports my confidence is breathing with intention during my morning walks. A few years ago, when I had COVID, I became deeply aware of how much we take breathing for granted. That experience shifted my mindset.

Something as simple as intentional breath can reconnect us to our bodies, calm our nervous systems, and remind us to be present.

In the beauty industry, I believe we are entering a more thoughtful era, one that prioritizes care over excess. Rather than constantly adding more, there is power in strengthening and supporting what we already have. Simple, intentional practices that nourish our natural nails, lashes, brows, and skin can make a meaningful difference over time. Our skin, in particular, is often treated as an afterthought, even though it is the largest organ of the body. When we begin to care for our body skin with the same attention we give our face, we unlock healthier, more resilient skin and long-term results.

Exfoliation plays a far more important role than many realize. While we have moved away from tanning beds and excessive sun exposure, we still tend to overload our skin with products that clog pores and disrupt natural function. Proper cleansing allows the skin to truly breathe before hydration. Through exfoliation, we remove dead skin cells, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and refine skin texture. This process supports smoother-looking skin and can improve the appearance of cellulite over time. Healthy skin is not about covering up. It is about care, balance, and allowing the body to do what it was designed to do.

Looking ahead, what excites me most is the continued evolution of beauty as a ritual rather than a routine. As a global brand, we do not just sell products. We share practices. We educate our community on how to use self-care with intention, encouraging participation in moments of pause, presence, and self-love. We believe that we are all self-care practitioners and that slowing down is not a luxury. It is a necessity.
