Self-love is at the heart of everything Cuticle-B-Gone stands for. “We believe that even the smallest acts of self-care can create a ripple effect, building confidence from the inside out,” says Barbara Gomes, Cuticle-B-Gone’s inventor and founder. When you take time to care for yourself—whether it’s a quiet moment with a cup of tea, a walk in the fresh air, or a few minutes spent pampering your nails—you send yourself a powerful message: I matter. Those moments might feel small, but they are the building blocks of a life lived with confidence and grace.
CBG’s founder, Barbara Gomes, invented and patented the Cuticle-B-Gone nail tool because she wasn’t satisfied with the harmful, damaging cuticle tools on the market.
Cuticle clippers and scissors may seem innocuous, but they can leave your nailbed vulnerable to infection. Healthy cuticles are essential for healthy nails. When they’re cut away, that natural barrier is gone, and your nails are left open to bacteria. The CBG tool was designed to protect what nature put there for a reason—gently buffing away only the dead skin while preserving the cuticle’s integrity. Self-care should never endanger your health, and it should be accessible to everyone.
The inspiration for Cuticle-B-Gone began decades ago with Barbara’s mother, Agnes—a remarkable woman whose strength was matched only by her grace.
A breast cancer survivor in her thirties, Agnes lived with nerve damage and lymphedema in one arm, which made her highly susceptible to infection. Even the smallest nick on a cuticle could send her to the hospital for two weeks on IV antibiotics. Determined to help, Barbara used nail files to smooth away hangnails and dead skin, but the process scratched both her mother’s nails and her manicures. Agnes loved having her nails done, and Barbara saw how much a fresh manicure lifted her spirits. The sparkle in her mother’s eyes after a manicure was more than vanity—it was joy, confidence, and a reminder that she was still herself, despite everything she had been through. In that moment, Barbara realized there had to be a better way—not just for her mother, but for everyone.
Agnes lived to be 92. With one arm, she drove a stick shift with no power steering, baked like a master, taught her grandkids to swim, and never once complained. She was living proof that confidence doesn’t come from perfection—it comes from caring for yourself, no matter what life throws your way. Barbara often remembers the afternoons spent at the kitchen table with Agnes, the smell of peanut butter blossom cookies, and the quiet hum of conversation as she carefully smoothed her mother’s nails.
Those moments were more than nail care—they were connection, love, and hope in tangible form.
Cuticle-B-Gone was created in her honor: a safer, healthier, and more loving way to care for nails, while giving people that small but mighty boost of confidence a beautiful manicure brings.

The team at CBG is working to change the way nails are cared for—permanently. “We encourage people to toss the scissors for more beautiful cuticles, because beauty should never come at the cost of health,” Barbara says, “We’re not swayed by passing trends; in fact, some, like Russian or E-file manicures, can be downright harmful.” CBG’s philosophy is simple: say no to risky trends, and yes to gentle, timeless care. Because building confidence through self-love and mindful self-care isn’t a fad—it’s a lifestyle. And that’s the foundation on which Cuticle-B-Gone is built.
