Dazzled By The Divine: A Story Of Building Your Wings On the Way Down

I’ve never been great at having things go according to plan. Don’t get me wrong-I tried. But a good part of my life and the success and opportunities I’ve experienced in business came not when I sought perfection, but when I followed my instincts and trusted in the unseen, hard to ignore gut feelings and nagging nudges and body pulls that sometimes seem to defy logic or reason.
I’ll never forget the day I walked into the non-profit I was working for and blurted out the fated phrase, “I’m giving my two weeks notice to start my own business as a psychic, healer and intuitive counselor.”
I had a few clients, but nothing that logic would have said was sufficient to slash the
only steady income I had. I was planning to do it in the coming months, but that day, the words just came out. And like a domino, when I got home that day, my roommate told me that I had to leave the apartment because his girlfriend was moving in the first of the month (that was in two weeks).
Great. I quit my job. And now would be potentially homeless.
A sane, normal person would have freaked out. Or begged for the job back. Or an extension to move out.
But what did I do? I got quiet, sat down, and made a list of all the qualities I wanted in a place and at the top, I wrote, “spiritual landlord” which made me chuckle.
Fast forward. On Craigslist, I saw the perfect 1BR apartment. Historic 1920’s style building with a balcony. Perfect to start my new business out of.
Within minutes, I struck up a conversation with the property manager/landlord and he told me that he was taking clairvoyant classes. This was getting interesting. The next thing I know, I skipped ahead of 17 applicants and got the keys to my Bay area palace.
And before I could panic about signing on the dotted line, he threw in, “By the way, can you do mini-readings at a wedding next weekend? My friend’s getting married and instead of a regular gift, I want to give them…you.”
I literally had my oracle card deck and a notepad and pen. I had a line around the entire perimeter of the reception hall and not long after that, through Divine synchronicities, I was given my own online radio show, doing live on-air readings for people on air about career, family and the big one, relationships and love.
From there, I started teaching classes at a local metaphysical bookstore and online…all while taking classes to sharpen my skills and learn the basics of business and marketing.
I was put exactly where I needed to be at the right time and did I do any of it perfectly? Certainly not. But even as I developed my fledging business and turned it into the dynamic Goddess empowerment company it is today, 15 years later, my baseline always boiled down to 3 things: Trust your intuition. Tell the truth. And take inspired risks.
I believe you have everything inside of you to ‘make it’ in any area of life. And if your intention is pure and clear, you will be guided if you’re truly open. You don’t have to do it perfectly or be perfect. Just start. Say yes to yourself. You will be astonished by what is possible and what doors will open for you when you get out of your own way, trust in the next right action and remember to have a grand time doing it.
