Introducing Kaila EM’s debut novel Mystique
Octavia, a young and dedicated mother, has worked hard to create the life she has with her two little boys after their father abandoned them years ago. She’s given up hope on finding love until one night when she meets Chad, a tall, handsome, and mysterious cowboy. She instantly gravitates towards him with an uncontrollable desire. Lust at first sight. Right away she knows she wants to get to know this man, or forever wonder what if.
Chad is charming, persuasive, and mysterious. Her pull towards him is unlike anything she’s ever experienced. And boy, does he look good in a stetson. He doesn’t typically date, and despite his warnings of potential danger, Octavia is determined to get to know him. Their connection is too strong to deny themselves of this potential love. Whatever danger he’s hinting towards, she’s sure she can handle it.
Their first few months together are hot and heavy. However, flickers of doubt are cast into Octavia's mind when she is left with subtle clues of unexplainable, and sometimes frightening, paranormal activity, along with hints of potential infidelity and betrayal. But she casts it aside and buries it deep into the depths of her mind. She's in complete denial that their relationship is anything less than perfect. She loves him and believes there is nothing that can tear them apart.
That is until… She begins to learn that Chad is different. Like, really different. He’d warned her about it, but she insisted their connection was strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Ocatvia has no idea what she’s really getting herself into. Chad harbours a dark secret. He claims he wants to be good for her, he even tries to prove it. But Octavia eventually begins to question if love is strong enough for him to fight the darkness, or if his true form is his ultimate prison. This story is set on a foundation of love and heartbreak teetering on the brink of discovering an ancient forbidden and mysterious world.
About the author
Born and raised in British Columbia, Kaila is a dedicated mother raising two wonderful sons. While she earned a diploma in social work, writing has always been her true passion. Finding solace and expression in her words, Kaila has a knack for crafting engaging narratives. She particularly loves writing poems, and ‘romantasy’. Her debut novel, Mystique, is a testament to her talent and dedication.
After gaining valuable experience working with children in a school setting, Kaila decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an author. She’s already begun working on the sequel to Mystique, eager to continue the captivating story she’s started.
Balancing her responsibilities with her writing career hasn't always been easy. Finding time to write and navigating the publishing world requires dedication and perseverance. Kaila is grateful for the unwavering support and belief she receives from her family and friends.
