Embracing the Power of Reinvention: How a Former Military Spouse Transformed Her Life at the age of 38

by Tishana Eason

In the world where youth is often glorified as the prime time to achieve success, my story of being a former military spouse was very difficult at times. That role of a military spouse demands adaptability, strength, and often self-sacrifice. Let’s not forget about the issues one may have within the marriage. But it created this woman you see between your eyes.

I made the decision to pour into myself instead of a marriage that was already sinking. I came into realization from a deep-seated, a need to reclaim my identity and pursue the dreams I set aside. After years of putting my family first, I thought about focusing on my own growth that felt so foreign to me. I didn’t want to live in the shadows of my soon-to-be ex but to step into my own light.

August of 2017, Brooklyn Beauty Bar opened its doors for the very first time. I was always passionate about helping others feel confident and helping one to develop self-love. I used what I learned in a failing marriage to grow a beautiful, safe, and healthy environment for my clients. I’m big on communication and confidentiality. I took on the role of leadership and business management, something I had to learn as a military spouse. Before I knew it, clients were coming through the door and leaving out with a free coaching session.

Throughout my journey, the most important lesson I learned was the power of self-love. After years of neglecting my own needs and desires, I realized that true happiness starts within. This was my inspiration to become a self-love coach, (heal self with love) helping other women rediscover their worth and build the lives they love. As a self-love coach, I draw on my own experiences to guide others through their own journeys. I teach others to set boundaries, embrace their authentic selves, and pursue their passions unapologetically. Seeing the transformation from my clients has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.

I didn’t stop there. As my confidence grew so did my desire to express myself creatively. I ran after my childhood dream of becoming a fashion designer. I’m a self-taught couture designer. I started off making pieces for myself and friends. Before you knew it, I had a whole couture line that I entered into New York Fashion Week. I named my clothing line GioNyka Couture after my niece and nephew like I told them when I was in my youth years. Launching that line was a leap of faith, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Now I’m hosting shows with a great friend that taught me to believe in myself. We now host shows out of North Carolina and in the Atlanta area. Today, as a salon owner of Brooklyn Beauty Bar, fashion designer of GioNyka Couture, and self-love coach of Heal Self with Love, I am living proof that it’s possible to turn adversity into opportunity and create a life that’s truly your own at any age. I’m divorced today but living my best life, and so can you if you believe in yourself and keep your faith.
