Your flaws are part of what makes you extraordinary. We are all uniquely created with strengths, talents, and even perceived flaws that contribute to our value. Together, we will explore how our uniqueness makes us invaluable. You will also find tips on recognizing and using your gifts effectively.

The Beauty of Imperfection

Society often pressures people to fit a mold, yet our differences are what make us special. It starts right from birth! There are expectations on how you should look, act and develop. There is no embracing your uniqueness! As we age, we are compared to other babies as well as charts on where we should be in development. Toddlers are told how to behave and that certain behaviors are “not nice.” There is a difference between acceptable behaviors and unacceptable behaviors when it comes to safety and hurting others. Let’s face it. Each one of us humans is different. We don’t fit a mold. As we grow and develop into teenagers and then adults, many of us “hide” parts of who we are.

For example, when I was in elementary school, a teacher put tape over my mouth during class because I talked too much. I was called nosy because I enjoyed being in the know. Both of these things stifled my development and my natural talents for communication and information gathering.

Recognizing Your Unique Talents and Strengths

Everyone has God-given talents, but many people struggle to recognize them. Here are some practical ways to discover your gifts:

  • Reflect on what excites you or comes naturally.

  • Consider what others appreciate about you.

  • Take assessments like CliftonStrengths® to gain deeper insights.

  • Work with a coach to help you uncover your unique goodness.

Self-reflection and journaling are tools to track moments of success and fulfillment. You can then look for patterns to uncover your strengths. Strengths, when not used properly, can be disguised as flaws or weaknesses. A good coach can help you discern that.

Aiming Your Talents for Impact

It is important to direct your talents toward meaningful goals. Much like a musician fine-tuning their instrument, if your skills and talents aren’t fine tuned, you will not achieve the desired results. Follow these tips to apply your strengths effectively:

  • Align talents with a purpose or mission

  • Surround yourself with people who complement your abilities.

  • Continue learning and growing in your strengths.

Remember that talents are not just for personal success, but for serving and uplifting others.

Overcoming Doubt and Embracing Your Worth

We are taught from a young age to be more concerned with what is wrong with us than what is right. We are taught to second guess our decisions and to be critical of who we are, what we do and how we do it. We are ingrained with self-doubt and the fear of not being enough. It becomes part of our thinking process. Our mind begins to control us with negativity, stopping us with constant fear of failure or simply not being “good enough.”

It’s time to take control. Know your worth. Do not allow anyone (especially yourself) to diminish your value. Use your talents to serve and achieve success.

You are not flawed. You are fabulous!

When we embrace our whole selves, we step into our true calling. The world doesn’t need a perfect version of you. It doesn’t need more people that are molded to fit the norm. It needs the real, uniquely gifted, beautifully imperfect you. The world needs the you that you were created to be.
