From Breakdown to Breakthrough - Year End Reflections

This March, I found myself in the hospital after a panic attack- with a diagnosis of stress-induced anxiety and stress-induced depression. I knew I had a stressful job that was wearing on me, but I didn’t realize how bad it really was until that moment.
Back in 2008, I became a teacher so I could travel the world. It was fun for about a decade. Then we settled in Hawai’i and I spent the next 7 years telling myself it would be my last year as a teacher.
I was building my own businesses on the side, trying to find the right thing for me that lit me up, made a difference in others’ lives, and supported me.
I felt like having a steady teaching job with a steady paycheck was safe, but how safe can it be when it’s putting me in the hospital?
They gave me a week off work and I stared at the ferns in our yard, journaled, and doodled little cartoons depicting
my life. At the end of the week I made the decision not to go back and spent the next week grieving and commemorating all those years as a teacher and all those children.
I opened up more space on the calendar in my Reiki studio and found more people came in when I was open during the day (not exactly shocking).
But the more I practiced, the more I found Reiki in itself wasn’t the right fit either. I could remove people’s energy blocks, but what was truly needed was coaching to help them transform their energy so it didn’t manifest in the same patterns and sticky spots. That is the work I do now- help people release their old blocks, figure out what really matters to them, and start living with more purpose and vibrancy.
It’s been a tumultuous year with two rebirths, but I feel more alive and more aligned than ever before.
