As the founder of Web Novis, a web development and AI integration agency in Milan I spend my days building the backend automations that power businesses. When I look at the job market I see a big problem: people looking for jobs treat their resumes like they are trying to sell something to a person but companies use computers to look at them. The truth is that getting a job in 2026 is not about writing well it is about making sure the computer can understand what you are saying.
The Invisible Gatekeeper: It’s Not You It’s the Computer
Many good people think they do not get hired because they do not have experience.. Really they do not get hired because the computer that looks at resumes cannot read the file they sent. These computers are like machines that try to find information in resumes.
When you send a resume the computer tries to take out the design and find the parts: skills, dates, job titles and education. If your resume has a lot of pictures or a weird layout the computer gets confused. The computer does not think you are a person it just does not understand what you are saying. To the computer you do not exist.
Make Your Resume Work Like a Website
To get past the computer you have to think. You are not writing for a person who is hiring you are writing for a computer that searches for things. First make your resume very simple. Use a layout. Second use the words that are in the job description.
With new computers that can understand what you mean using the exact words is still important. If the computer is looking for someone who knows "React.js". You say "Frontend Web Development" the computer might not think you are a good fit.
The Problem With Computers That Try to Detect Computers
Right now a lot of people are using computers to make resumes and send them to many jobs. So companies are using computers to try to find out if the resume was made by a person or a computer.. This is not a good way to do things. These computers are not very good at their job.
They often think that resumes written by people are actually made by computers. This is especially true for people who do not speak English well or for people who write in a technical way. We are in a time where computers are trying to fight computers and good people are getting hurt.
How to Get Noticed in 2026
If computers are the ones looking at resumes how do you get them to notice you? The answer is to use numbers and facts, not words. Do not use phrases that do not mean anything. Instead use numbers and facts.

Computers are getting better at looking for resumes that have numbers and facts. They like those more than resumes that just have words.
Do not just say "I made things better." Say "I made things 40% better by using scripts."
Do not say "I managed a budget." Say "I managed a budget of €50k and got a return, on investment." By using numbers and facts you are speaking the language that computers understand. Once you do that you can finally tell your story to a person.
