In today’s highly competitive corporate landscape, more than 6 out of 10 executives feel disempowered, unable to tap into their true potential, and burdened by a myriad of challenges. To thrive in demanding environments, it is essential to cultivate a sense of self-awareness and resilience through routines that can replenish our energy.

A proven way to achieve this is the set of 10 Self-RENEWAL habits. From the book, RENEWAL, these habits form a power-pack that energizes us every hour as we incorporate them into our daily routines.

Here they are - in summary - to pepper our regular work day without overwhelm.

Instant Reset and Inner Peace

These habits are quick, intentional routines for stress interruption and self-awareness.

  • Smile Inside and Stretch While We Laze in Bed: We start the day with a gentle, inner smile, metaphorically greeting our body's "organization." We stretch our feet and palms to activate meridians, boosting mood and mental clarity.

  • Breathe Consciously for 30 Seconds Every Couple of Hours: We use transitions between tasks to perform three rounds of 5-second inhales and 5-second exhales. This 30-second practice is a pattern interrupt that calms the mind, consciously oxygenates the lungs, and reduces anxiety.

  • Stay in Harmony. Keep Invoking the Parrot: We imagine a "parrot" on our shoulder asking, "Is that what we want?" This is an internal check to ensure our words and actions align with our true values, reducing stress and fostering integrity.

Resilience and Emotional Control

These practices build a stable psychological foundation against triggers and external dependency.

  • Get Efficient and Stress-Free with Qigong: We adopt this "meditation in movement" practice. By combining gentle movements and conscious breathing, Qigong aligns the body, mind, and spirit, making us more effective, stress-resistant, and productive in everything else we do.

2. Enhance Control with PACE Awareness: We use P.A.C.E. (Pausing, Accepting, Checking, and Exiting) to manage emotions during conflict. This structured framework helps us pause our ego, accept the trigger, check our balance, and exit the situation to regulate our response.

3. Invoke Gratitude, Independent of Circumstances: We cultivate a gratitude habit by focusing on the "hidden blessings" within daily events. The mantra is that nothing happens to us, only for us. This shifts perspective, builds resilience, and speeds up learning. It also helps separate the emotions from the lessons when things don’t go our way. As a consequence, we don’t waste our precious energy.

4. Cut Object Dependency: We practice detachment and minimalism. Decluttering physical and mental space reduces stressors and lessens the mind's attachment to outcomes. This allows our authentic spirit to flow, leading to contented achievement.

Alignment and Future Focus

The final steps focus on strategic connection, organization, and intentional visualization.

  • Invest Energy in Someone Younger: Mentoring children or young recruits is a powerful, reciprocal investment. This "curiosity time" provides fresh perspectives essential for innovation and helps us reconnect with our inner child.

  • Organize, and Recount Our Day Vis-à-Vis Our Purpose: We organize our physical space (keys, files) to save time and reduce stress. Then, we organize our mind (priorities, to-do lists). Crucially, we reflect on the day's actions to ensure they are aligned with our overall purpose and defining values.

  • Acknowledge Blessings and Visualize Our Future: Before turning in, we take time to acknowledge our blessings and vividly visualize our desired future. This simple evening ritual cultivates a positive mindset, reduces anxiety, and inspires action.

Conclusion

By incorporating these Self-RENEWAL habits into our daily routine, we irrefutably keep supplementing our energy on an hourly basis. We also improve overall well-being and become more effective, compassionate, and farsighted human beings.

Further, by bringing these habits into our circles, in our companies, or resident/church groups, we can further the RENEWALism Movement. Consequently, creating conscious cultures that are connected with energy - healthier, happier, and more harmonious. Worth a conscious attempt?
