Itty-Bitty-Shitty-Committee – Dismissed

Lena Khais

Have you ever been on the board of your own "Itty-Bitty-Shitty-Committee" that meets regularly in your head? It’s time to unapologetically dismiss this inner critic that sabotages your best efforts. For female entrepreneurs, this committee often takes center stage, buzzing with doubts and fears that stagger business growth and lead to income plateaus.

How do you break through it? By unpacking and smashing three major problem-makers: impostor syndrome, fear of failure, and limiting beliefs about money. Addressing and dismissing these mental barriers are key to unlocking unlimited abundance.

Impostor Syndrome

Impostor syndrome can be crippling, especially for entrepreneurs breaking new ground with unique visions. When the itty-bitty-shitty-committee convinces a woman she isn’t worthy of her success, it creates a mental block that stifles growth. This often happens when we start comparing ourselves to others. Women suffering from impostor syndrome may shy away from new opportunities, undervalue their offerings, and avoid networking.

To dismantle this belief, ask yourself if what you believe is actually true. Or are you comparing your chapter 2 to someone else’s chapter 17?

Here’s a trick: Get a glass jar and write down every win, dropping it in the jar several times a day. Keep it visible to train your mind to recognize and celebrate your successes. Literally watch yourself piling on a win on top of a win.

Fear of Failure

Fear of failure is another significant barrier. We’re not born with it; it’s learned. This is good news because it means we can unlearn it. Often, fear of failure starts in childhood with the concept of external validation. The pressure to please can become paralyzing.

To overcome this fear, reframe the concept of failure. Recognize that others see you through their subjective perceptions, which reflect more on them than on you. Learn from experiences rather than fearing mistakes, and shift your mindset to view new opportunities as exciting rather than scary.

Limiting Beliefs About Money

Many women grow up with mental blocks about money, internalizing negative messages from family and media. Wealthy characters in stories are often portrayed as evil, leading to beliefs that seeking wealth is greedy or that good people don’t have money. These beliefs can result in self-sabotage, like underpricing services or avoiding financial planning.

To rewrite your money story, challenge these limiting beliefs. Think of the amazing things you can create with more money and the experiences you can provide for your loved ones with financial freedom. Money is energy, and it’s up to you to use it for good causes.

Become friends with money. Practical steps such as financial education and planning can be empowering. You can choose to live your life by design rather than by default.

Conclusion

Dismissing the itty-bitty-shitty-committee requires conscious effort and consistent practice. Even after feeling free of their influence for months, you may occasionally hear those familiar voices. By nurturing your unconditional self-worth, reframing how you define failure, and challenging financial myths, you can break through income plateaus and create generational wealth.

The journey to unlimited abundance begins with silencing the inner critic and embracing a mindset of possibility and empowerment. As you rewrite those old programs in your mind, you unlock your true potential and pave the way for a prosperous future for yourself and your loved ones. Remember, we don’t attract what we want; we attract who we are. When you step into your identity as a confident, powerful, and successful person, you will naturally attract more success and abundance into your life. I see this in my clients every day.
