I have never thought of myself as particularly bold. Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, I poured my energy into a coffee roastery I owned in the middle of a lively design district. Every day, I was surrounded by artists, furniture makers, and craftspeople. Watching them work taught me that true beauty lies in craftsmanship and in the care someone puts into what they create. Even though I loved being part of that community, my appreciation for design stayed quietly in the background of my life. When my husband, John, and I moved to New York in 2018 for his work, I started importing artisan pieces from South Africa.
They were textiles, ceramics, and sculptures that told a story of culture and tradition. The business itself was not a runaway success, but it refined my eye and reminded me of how much I wanted design to be part of my future. I realized I did not just want to curate. I wanted to create. Then the pandemic came, and everything changed. Suddenly, the world slowed down, and homes became the center of our lives. In the middle of all that uncertainty, we made the decision to move to Florida with our daughter, Neave. At the time, it felt like a leap into the unknown, but it was also the most courageous decision I had ever made.
That move changed everything. Soon after we arrived, we reconnected with new friends, Jon and Taylor Scurry, who were in the middle of a home renovation. We began helping them and, little by little, what started as a neighborly gesture grew into a collaboration. Jon’s design eye blended with John’s systems mindset, and I found myself weaving in my global sensibility and attention to detail. Together, we realized we could do something bigger than just help friends renovate. We could create a firm that guides people through every step of transforming their homes. That is how Palm Club Design Group was born. We are not simply interior designers. We are partners for the entire renovation process, from the very first idea to the final finishing touches. Our work is about transformation and trust, and about creating homes that feel both personal and elevated. Today, we proudly call ourselves Design-Inspired Renovation Experts. Looking back, I see that moving to Florida was not just about location. It was about courage.

It was about believing that the instincts I had carried with me since those early days in Cape Town could guide us toward something meaningful. That leap gave me the chance to build a business, a team, and a community centered on creating homes that reflect who people truly are. For me, courage looked like leaving behind the familiar and stepping into a space where creativity and trust could shape something new. It changed not just my career but my life.
