She Sings It Better

Football Season has come to a close. For me, that means I will no longer be listening to a guest superstar sing our National Anthem. I do enjoy knowing who they get for the honor. But if I’m being honest, and this is my opinion, if they announce a male artist, I’m often disappointed. Not that I’ve never enjoyed a male voice belting it out, but they are far and in between.
If someone were to go out on the street and ask random people whose rendition of the Anthem was the best, the vast majority would say Whitney Houston at Super Bowl XXV. Which I cannot argue. There are many songs out in the universe that both men and women can sing without taking away the songs beauty, meaning, and charm. We even know many songs that became famous not by the original artist, but by the opposite sex composer remastering it later on.
But for me, the National Anthem is a song that seems geared towards the female voice.
Perhaps it is the elegance of the anthem’s words, the softer tone of voice, or the pitch of the higher key. Women do it better. I’m not suggesting they never hire a man. There have been exceptions. But for me, I enjoy our anthem more from a woman.
