Standing at the Edge of Change

I remember praying in the days leading up to my decision to leave Dallas—the city where I had built a life with my former husband. It wasn’t a small decision. I knew I was standing at the edge of something life-changing.
One path meant staying married, walking the more “predictable” road—retiring comfortably, settling into what others might call stability and safety. But what they called stability, I experienced as chaos and confusion. I felt invisible, unheard, and undervalued. I wasn’t safe.
And yet, more than two decades earlier, I had heard a voice—God’s voice—place hope on my heart. He said, “I have a plan for you. You can’t stop. You have to keep going.”
That belief carried me then. It still carries me now.
Belief is a powerful tool. When someone believes in you—when you begin to believe in you—it builds a foundation that no fear can shake. That belief gave me the courage to choose the other path. The one where I left. Where I walked away from familiarity and into the unknown—on faith alone.
I believed, even when he didn’t. I trusted, even when I couldn’t see the next step clearly. I believed I’d find an apartment, find work, keep building my business, keep speaking, and—though it hurt—still believe that true love might find me again someday.
Those prayers were heavy—tear-soaked and trembling.
And here’s what I’ve learned: God doesn’t ask us to be fearless when we’re standing at the edge of a major life decision. He asks us to trust Him and take the next step—not because fear isn’t real, but because He is.
I see this moment mirrored in the lives of my coaching clients all the time. They come to the edge of a decision—that holy, terrifying moment when something inside them whispers, “You can’t go back to who you were.” But then? They freeze, shrinking into a life that no longer serves them.
And I get it. Fear is real. It’s rooted in lived experience—trauma, unkind voices, and disappointments that make us question our worth.
But fear isn’t the real enemy. Disbelief is.
Fear doesn’t stop us. But believing fear more than we believe in ourselves—or in the power of God within us—that’s when we get stuck. That’s when self-sabotage creeps in. When we over-apologize. When we play small. When we people-please and disconnect from our dreams.
The edge of change feels terrifying because it requires us to trust a version of ourselves we haven’t fully met yet. But that version? Is already in you. Waiting. Hoping. Ready.
Through lived experience, I’ve learned this: the world is constantly changing, and that won’t stop. But with the tools and strategies I’ve developed, I help others build the skills to handle change with courage and confidence—so they gain clarity every step of the way.
I don’t coach my clients to ignore fear. I teach them to acknowledge it, name it, and walk forward with it.
You don’t need the full map. You just need the next step. And if your knees are shaking and your voice is cracking? That means you're right where you need to be.
