The Boldest Shift I Made This Year And Why It Changed Everything

The boldest move I made this year wasn’t a single decision. It was a complete shift in how I viewed my role as a founder. For years, I was the one keeping the wheels turning, doing the work, holding everything together through sheer force. That mindset kept the business stable, but it held me back from the impact I actually wanted to create.

This year I decided that “survival mode” was no longer acceptable. If I wanted meaningful growth, I had to stop operating like an employee inside my own business and start acting like the leader I should have been all along. This was partially in place as I had two young children over these 7 years, and finally I feel like I am ready for the next chapter in life and business.

That shift forced a series of confronting decisions. I took a hard look at our finances instead of glossing over them. I fired my first staff member, which was one of the hardest things I’ve done but necessary to evolve. I hired more strategically, choosing people who could take ownership instead of relying on me to solve everything. I revalued our services and aligned our pricing with the actual value we deliver. I had far more direct, honest conversations with clients about expectations, boundaries, and goals.

And I made a point of being transparent with everyone, team, clients, peers, about where the business was heading. Growth, yes, but not growth for the sake of appearing bigger. Growth that is sustainable, profitable, and grounded in the value we bring. Growth that positions the business as a vehicle for impact rather than a container for stress.

A major catalyst for this shift was investing in a business coach. That decision challenged me in ways I didn’t expect. It forced me into real accountability. It pushed me into self-awareness instead of self-criticism. It surfaced beliefs I’d carried for years about capability, worth, and “staying small.” Without that coaching, I wouldn’t have had the clarity to decide what I truly want or the confidence to pursue it.

How I Navigate Fear When the Stakes Are High

Fear doesn’t go away just because you’re ambitious. If anything, it gets louder. Every high-stakes decision this year carried some version of the same fear: What if I fail? What if I expose myself? What if the decision backfires? I think fear has held me back in the past from even dreaming big. I've avoided fear altogether and stayed safe. Now I'm dreaming bigger, and the fear is rising.

But I’ve realised the alternative is worse. Staying where you are is the only guaranteed outcome of avoiding fear. I’m not prepared to build a business or a life that is defined by stagnation.

So instead of fighting the fear, I treat it as part of the process. I acknowledge it, but I don’t negotiate with it. You can be afraid and move forward anyway. You can be unsure and still take action. The key is understanding that fear signals growth, not danger.

Ambition requires discomfort.

My goals are big and so is the vision I’m stepping into. That naturally comes with pressure. But once you stop expecting fear to disappear, it loses its power. You just get on with the work.

My Leadership Principle for 2026

My core leadership principle for 2026 is connection. Genuine connection.

Not surface-level rapport. Not vague “team culture.” Actual connection that allows me to understand what drives people, what limits them, what they aspire to, and how I can support their growth alongside the growth of the business.

Connection is also about honesty. Honest with myself, my team, and the clients we serve. It means asking better questions, saying the things that need to be said, and creating an environment where people can do their best work because they feel understood and valued.

This year taught me that leadership isn’t about control. It’s about clarity, courage, and connection. And that’s the direction I’m taking into 2026 and beyond.

Loved your story! Taking bold steps can truly transform both mindset and results. It’s inspiring to see how embracing change opens new opportunities. In the e-commerce world, using walmart dropshipping automation can be a similar game-changer, helping entrepreneurs streamline orders, manage inventory, and grow their business while focusing on strategy rather than daily tasks.
