The Cost of Playing Small

For a long time, I believed the rules.

Work hard.

Be prepared.

Wait your turn.

Prove yourself first.

Like many ambitious women, I thought success would come from competence alone. If I delivered results, stayed professional, and worked harder than everyone else, the opportunities would eventually follow.

What I discovered was that competence and opportunity are not always distributed equally.

Throughout my career in financial services, entrepreneurship, coaching, and leadership, I watched talented women hesitate before making decisions they already knew were right. They delayed raising prices. Delayed asking for opportunities. Delayed becoming visible. Delayed launching ideas. Delayed claiming authority.

I saw it in clients.

I saw it in colleagues.

And I saw it in myself.

The pattern fascinated me because the consequences were rarely immediate. No one wakes up one day and realizes they have spent years delaying the very moves that would have accelerated their growth.

But over time, hesitation compounds.

The delayed conversation.

The delayed ask.

The delayed launch.

The delayed decision.

Eventually, those delays become lost income, lost influence, and lost opportunity.

I began calling this phenomenon the Hesitation Tax—the economic cost of delaying decisions you already know are right.

That realization changed the trajectory of my work.

As a former financial sales professional, entrepreneur, performance coach, USC scholar-athlete, and Division I hurdler, I have always believed in disciplined action. Athletes understand something that many women are never taught in business: waiting for perfect certainty is rarely a winning strategy.

The women who become impossible to ignore are rarely the most perfect.

They are the women who move before they feel fully validated.

That belief became the foundation for BrazenEra, my platform dedicated to helping women build greater visibility, leverage, ownership, and economic power. It also inspired my forthcoming book, The Brazen Code: How Ambitious Women Override the Bro Code and Multiply Their Power, Money, and Freedom.

Today, that work has expanded into a broader movement focused on women's economic leverage, visibility, ownership, and capital access.

Today, my mission is bigger than helping women build successful businesses.

I want women to recognize the hidden costs of playing small.

I want women to stop mistaking hesitation for preparation.

I want women to understand that participation is not the same thing as power.

And I want more women to build the visibility, influence, ownership, and economic leverage that create lasting freedom.

The truth is that many women do not need more permission.

They need a new playbook.

One that rewards decisive action instead of endless preparation.

One that prioritizes leverage instead of approval.

One that recognizes that hesitation has a cost.

And that women are capable of far more than they have been taught to claim.

That is what The Brazen Code is about.

And that is why I refuse to play small.
