The Day I Stepped Off the Merry-Go-Round
By Tanice Myers | Co-Founder of Road Warrior Investors

For more than two decades, I built a successful career in corporate technology. I spent 23 years in the industry, including 10 years at Microsoft. From the outside, it looked like success: stability, income, benefits, stock, opportunity, and a recognizable company name.
But somewhere along the way, I started asking myself a question I could no longer ignore: Is this really the life I want to keep building?
I began to see corporate life as a merry-go-round. There was always another role, another reorganization, another performance review, another compensation package, and another reason to stay. None of it was bad.
Much of it was good. But good can still become misaligned.
At the same time, my husband Paul and I were building our real estate investing business, Road Warrior Investors. What started as something on the side had grown into something much bigger. We were buying, renovating, selling, and renting homes. More importantly, we were helping homeowners through difficult situations: inherited properties, distressed houses, title challenges, financial stress, and major life transitions.
That work felt different. It was real, personal, challenging, and deeply meaningful. The defining moment came when Paul and I had an honest family conversation about the future. Were we willing to bet on ourselves? Were we willing to leave behind the comfort of a steady paycheck and build something that reflected who we were becoming?
Walking away from Microsoft was terrifying. I was not leaving because I had failed. I was leaving something successful, stable, and familiar. In many ways, that made the decision harder.
When I finally made the leap, I learned something important: confidence does not always come before action. Sometimes confidence comes because you take action.
Entrepreneurship has stretched me in every possible way. It has required resilience, leadership, patience, faith, problem-solving, and a willingness to keep growing. It has also given me a front-row seat to the power of helping people move forward.

Today, Road Warrior Investors is not just about real estate. Real estate is the vehicle, but people are the purpose. Alongside Paul, I have participated in hundreds of residential real estate transactions across multiple markets. We have built a business around practical solutions, community impact, and the belief that people come before profits. Success looks different to me now. It is no longer defined only by title, income, or professional achievement. Success is freedom. It is impact. It is ownership. It is building something with your family, creating opportunities for others, and knowing the work you do matters.
The risk that changed everything was not simply leaving Microsoft. The real risk was finally listening to the voice inside me that knew there was more.
And the reward has been far greater than I imagined.
