For years, I watched women walk into my pharmacy with the same complaint: “I feel like I’m losing my mind.”
They described sleepless nights, sudden rage, crushing anxiety, brain fog so thick they couldn’t recall common words. Many had been told by doctors that it was “just stress” or “normal aging.” But when I asked about their age and their cycles, a different picture emerged: perimenopause and menopause.
We’ve been trained to think of menopause as hot flashes and missed periods, but the truth is hormonal changes directly impact mental health. Estrogen affects serotonin, dopamine, and even how your brain uses glucose. When estrogen drops, so does your emotional resilience.
The result? Women suffer in silence – ashamed of their mood swings, terrified of the brain fog, and convinced they’re falling apart.
As a compounding pharmacist, I’ve spent over a decade formulating personalized hormone therapies, however, my real education came from listening. Black women, in particular, face a double burden: earlier onset of perimenopause, more severe symptoms, and a healthcare system that often dismisses us. Studies show we’re half as likely to be offered hormone therapy, yet we experience longer, more intense hot flashes and higher rates of depression during the transition.
That’s why I’m on a mission to change the conversation.
Personalized treatment matters. One-size-fits-all hormone therapy doesn’t work for everyone. Through compounding, I can tailor doses, delivery methods, and combinations to each woman’s unique biology – which means better results and fewer side effects. Although, medicine alone isn’t enough. We need education, advocacy, and community.
I created the Menopause Journal to help women track symptoms and advocate for themselves. I launched RX School to teach the science behind cellular repair and peptides. While building Revolution RX Pharmacy to be a safe space where women are heard and never gaslit.
If you’re in the middle of this transition, hear me: you are not broken, you are not crazy, and you don’t have to suffer alone.
Let’s talk openly about menopause and mental health. Let’s demand better care, and let’s rise together – because informed women heal out loud.
