The Opportunities You Create When You Stop Waiting

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky

This quote has shaped how I approach nearly every part of my life, both professionally and personally. As a business owner and a mother, I’ve learned that there really is no such thing as “the right time.” Waiting for it is often just another way of watching opportunities pass by. Life doesn’t slow down and neither does work. You must stay ahead of the story, the assignments, the schedules, because if you don’t, they will quickly get ahead of you.

I believe I am where I am today because of the fire inside of me. I was born with ambition the desire to want more. More growth in my career and more presence in my family life. For me, ambition isn’t about perfection. It’s about being the best version of myself as a wife, a mother, a business owner and a friend.

Ambition is action. It’s choosing not to overthink something so much that you talk yourself out of it. If there’s something you want whether it’s an incredible placement for a client or a goal that feels almost impossible you have to go for it. Opportunities rarely come knocking on your door. Most of the time, they only come to life once you decide to step up and take the shot.

When I decided to go out on my own and start my company at just 22 years old, I didn’t spend time listing everything that could go wrong. I focused on the moment I was in and made the decision to move forward. Looking back, that mindset made all the difference.

That same month, while traveling to Los Angeles, I had a chance encounter that changed everything. I struck up a casual conversation with someone standing at the gate. We started talking about jewelry, and before I knew it, the conversation shifted. I mentioned that I had just started my own PR firm, and he told me he had been looking for a publicist.

That was my first client.

I remember walking away from that conversation thinking, I’ve got this. I can really do this. It wasn’t a perfectly planned pitch or a polished meeting it was simply showing up, speaking up, and taking a chance. That moment reinforced something I still believe today:

At times, opportunities can come from a conversation you almost didn’t start.
