When people ask about the inspiration behind my BeeBetter Movement, they're often surprised when I mention the two most influential women in my life: my grandmother and my daughter Emma.

Grandmother's Gift of Independence

Since childhood, my grandmother was my unconditional supporter. When most adults might laugh at a child's dream

of buying a house, she reassured me I could achieve it when older and followed through with practical lessons on money management when I began working at 14.

My first taste of independence came when I moved out of my parents' house and stayed with her. Instead of imposing rules, she gave me room to figure out life as an adult.

Later, with her guidance and financial contribution, I purchased my first home, fulfilling the promise she'd made years earlier. She established the foundation of my financial knowledge, preparing me for success while showering me with hugs and kisses.

Beyond financial wisdom, my grandparents' home was my childhood sanctuary. Fifty acres of woodland with a pond became the setting for countless adventures. My grandfather and I became an inseparable duo during these weekend visits where I learned to appreciate nature's wonders from bird watching to making maple syrup.

These experiences taught me that meaningful connections and shared experiences far outweigh material possessions: a cornerstone of the BeeBetter philosophy.

Emma: The Future of BeeBetter

In my forties, this lesson crystallized as I realized, "I'd rather spend quality time with my daughter, Emma, than spend money on material things.” This shift wasn't about depriving ourselves, but recognizing that memories far outlive material possessions.

Emma and I have developed our own traditions, like our Sunday breakfast ritual where we go out for breakfast every Sunday to talk and check in with each other. These moments have become sacred spaces for authentic connection.

While many parents hope their children will follow directly in their footsteps, I've taken a different approach. I don't want Emma to be exactly like me. I want her to take from the best parts of me and build on them. Rather than continuing our exact traditions, I'd prefer she does something more specific to her children's needs in a way that immortalizes her in their memory as a fantastic parent.

It's been remarkable to witness how much it has inspired my daughter, Emma, to realize how limitless she is and how she consistently allows positivity to triumph in her life. Seeing her embrace these principles reassures me that the BeeBetter Movement transcends generations.

From Personal to Universal

The transformation of one woman, Maya, exemplifies how powerful the BeeBetter approach can be. After adopting positive language, replacing "I'm fine" with "I'm awesome," Maya's entire outlook shifted. When restructuring hit her workplace, instead of feeling anxious, Maya saw it as an opportunity and successfully secured a leadership position.

Like my grandmother did for me and as I hope to do for Emma, the BeeBetter Movement invites readers to discover their unique "buzzword" and realize potential to be great and live it daily.

Remember, being positive isn't about what you have but who you choose to be. It's the commitment to always look on the brighter side of things and strive to be better every day, irrespective of what you own or are going through.

What word will you choose today to honor the women who shaped you and inspire those who will follow?
