What I Built Before I Felt Ready
By Anthony Frelas

My name is Anthony Frelas, and I built my agency while most people expected me to be focused on homework, not running marketing campaigns for companies worth more than one hundred million dollars. I was seventeen years old, still figuring out who I was, and definitely not the traditional picture of a business owner.
I started Frelas Media because I saw a clear gap in my community. Local businesses were struggling with online visibility, getting overcharged by agencies, or being completely ignored after signing a contract. I knew I could help, even without years of experience or a diploma to back me up yet. Waiting until I felt “ready” would have meant never starting at all.
I didn’t know everything about running a business, but I knew enough to solve real problems. And solving real problems is what actually matters.
How Founders Overcome Hesitation
Most founders get stuck because they believe they need to know everything before making a move. That mindset becomes a trap. You research, plan, and second-guess yourself until months pass with no real action. I learned early that the fear never fully goes away, so the only way forward is to move while you still feel unsure.
Taking imperfect action builds confidence because you begin proving to yourself that you can figure things out as you go. What helped me most was shifting my focus from perception to results. People questioned my age. They questioned whether a student could run an agency. They questioned how someone so young could work with large companies.
Instead of letting that stop me, I let the work speak. When I delivered results, hesitation turned into momentum. I realized that age does not determine ability. Results do.
Another key to overcoming hesitation is accepting that mistakes are part of the process. You learn faster from doing than from planning. Every client taught me something. Every challenge forced me to adjust and improve. Imperfect action turns uncertainty into knowledge.
What Early Action Created Momentum
The first major momentum shift came from saying yes to opportunities that scared me. I took on projects that stretched my skills. I reached out to businesses without a portfolio. I learned on the job by solving real problems for real clients. Those early risks led to referrals, and referrals built credibility.

Another turning point was building a student-led team. I brought on interns who wanted experience and taught them everything I knew. That allowed the company to scale without losing quality, and it created something unique. Clients didn’t just see a marketing agency — they saw a driven, communicative team that cared deeply about results. Our story became part of our brand.
The biggest shift came from consistency. Showing up daily, improving systems, refining strategies, and staying focused built trust over time. Imperfect action, done consistently, becomes strong execution.
