As a niche Social Media Marketing agency owner, I started “The I Do Wedding Marketing Podcast” as an alternate means of expression. I was working in my business (I Do Wedding Marketing, which the show aptly followed the name of) as a team of one for its initial years. A weekly conversation, whether hypothetically between myself and the audience or literally with a guest, offering me a connection I wouldn’t have normally had.
The podcast allowed me an avenue to show expertise, provide value using my own voice, which felt more natural to me than newsletters or more written content. It took a while for my podcast to truly stand out in the space of wedding industry education. Why? Because what would make the I Do Wedding Marketing Podcast stand out was consistency. And consistency takes time! Now, with over 4 years of content, we are about to hit our 200th episode. We are servicing wedding industry clients worldwide and speaking at industry events nationally. The credibility came with the consistency.
The biggest misconception about podcast success is that it is about the numbers. For me, the podcast's greatest successes were the experts and guests I have gotten to know because of their coming onto the podcast.
Those guest spots turned into relationships, speaking engagements, referrals, and yes, new listeners. But above all, the value came from the connections that having a podcast gave me. No longer did I have nothing but a "coffee chat" as my best networking follow-up. Now, I have a true value proposition of a spot on a long-standing industry podcast. And that has been its biggest success!
