When I think about the impact I hope people remember me for, it’s not the material achievements or the business milestones, it’s the way I made others feel and the opportunities I helped create. Building a brand with Portraits de Famille certainly brings influence and recognition, but true legacy is measured by the lives you touch, the values you uphold and the ripple effect of your decisions across time.
For me, the greatest legacy is about empowering others. At Portraits de Famille, we’ve made artist collaboration the heart of our brand, not just as a creative strategy but as a way to give back and create lasting impact. Every capsule collection is a partnership with a distinct artist, allowing their voice, story and vision to reach new
audiences. Through our Artist’s Fund, we’re able to support emerging talent, provide resources and help artists preserve their creative legacy. This approach ensures that our influence extends beyond the garments we produce, it lives on in the careers we help shape and the communities we nurture.
Leaders who want to design for long-term influence must start by clarifying their values and making decisions that reflect those values, even when it’s not the easiest path. Influence is about consistency, integrity and the willingness to invest in others. At Portraits de Famille, we focus on transparency, authenticity and community. We invite our collectors and artists into our “famille”, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose. By prioritizing collaboration over competition and generosity over self-interest, we’ve built a brand culture that encourages people to pay it forward.
Designing for long-term influence also means thinking beyond your own success. It’s about building systems and structures that will continue to create impact after you’re gone. The Artist’s Fund is one example, by setting aside resources for future generations of creators, we ensure that our brand’s influence endures. We also strive to make every decision with an eye toward sustainability, fairness and cultural relevance, so that the stories we tell and the products we make continue to resonate long after the current trends have faded.
One legacy lesson I learned the hard way is that chasing scale and visibility can sometimes distract from the deeper work of building meaning and connection. Early in my journey, I was focused on growth, expanding our reach, increasing our sales and making a name for the brand. But I realized that true impact is about being deeply rooted somewhere. The most meaningful moments have come from intimate collaborations, heartfelt conversations and the quiet satisfaction of seeing an artist thrive because of our partnership.

It’s easy to get caught up in the metrics of success, but the real measure of legacy is found in the stories people tell about you when you’re no longer in the room. Did you inspire them? Did you help them grow? Did you make them feel seen and valued? These are the echoes that outlive any product or profit.
In the end, creating impact that outlives you is about living your values, investing in others and building something that matters. At Portraits de Famille, our hope is that our influence will be felt not just in the fashion world, but in the lives of the artists, collectors and communities we touch. That’s the legacy I strive for and the one I hope people remember.
