Hola! My name is Sal Salcedo and I am an artist that works with people and their hair!
I love focusing on transformations, helping people evolve into the next version of themselves. Nova Arts Salon came from the desire to create a space where we, the artists, help other people express themselves. Our philosophy has a deep focus on community, transformation, and sustainability. We aim to be a sanctuary where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to grow free, just like the many plants around our beautiful space.
I love traveling, whether flying, road tripping, or immersing myself in a documentary, book, or someone else’s life story. I love learning about something, somewhere, or someone new, because it gives me a wider perspective. When you go somewhere else, it exposes you to who you are. There is no validation from routine or the same people all the time. That opens me up to knowing more about myself. On the other side, I come out with extreme confidence in who I really am. :) Traveling keeps me on my toes. It awakens my awareness.
I seek to do so by making the space as sacred as it can be. My chair, the salon, and its people are treated with respect and utmost care. We treat people as ever evolving. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or you’ve been coming since we opened 8 years ago. We value you and see you as evolving. We don’t limit you; on the contrary, we help you redesign the new you!
We don’t want you to look or feel like anybody else. You are you, and the more authentically you are, the more freedom there is to be experienced.
To beautify the world around us, I believe, is the duty of the artist. To remind one another of the beauty they may have forgotten exists, both inside themselves and everywhere else.
The feeling this transmits is contagious. Not only do we help people look and feel their best, but it ripples out into the world. I’ve seen people treat one another more kindly & lovingly as they feel better about themselves. For lack of a better word, people leave vibing high!
The idea is simple: we create more of what we wish to see in the world. This helps build communities. We empower the individual, and they enter the world sharing that energy.
For me, I seek to continue to evolve as an artist. Hair has been my medium, yet I strive to expand and collaborate with other artistic fields. I am currently opening a salon in Mexico City, and the idea is to start an academy there. Perhaps a hair academy, but really, I desire an academy for artistic development. The vision is to offer different workshops where people leave feeling empowered and more curious about themselves and the world as a whole. I always say that if we enable people to see themselves as artists, then they can be more conscious & intentional about their creations. It makes them aware that we live in a reality where it’s all connected.

Most adults forget to imagine or forget to trust their intuition. Children have this talent at their fingertips, so I seek to create a place where people return to that curiosity and excitement of being like a child again, to reconnect with their inner artist. In the future, I’d like to take this workshop and academy on the road internationally.
I’m also toying with the idea of pitching a show. Imagine an Anthony Bourdain-type show, with me as a hairstylist giving different people around the world a transformation and hearing and sharing their story.
