Fire in My Purpose: Determined to Live Out My Vision

by Yalonda Smith

Have you ever paid attention to the sparks before a fire? This is the story of my life that led to it.

Spark One

At the age of four I was hit by a car and I spent more than a month in a coma. From this accident I sustained a flat left foot, a broken hip, and a diagnosis of a severe traumatic brain injury.

Spark Two

Married at the age of 25 and moving to a different state. Only for me to end up in a women's shelter.

Spark Three

My oldest sister would pass away. A year later my youngest sister would pass away.

Spark Four

July 14, 2019 my father passed away. Causing my mother’s depression to worsen, which led to her passing on December 19, 2021.

Healing through words

March of 2019 I started a blog page on Facebook called Letting Go and Loving my Truth and currently I am the author of four books available on Amazon.

My 4 books are:

  • Her Reflections at 40

  • The Breath in Her, Breathe Through

  • The Story in Her Eyes

  • The Anxiety of Nyla

I am also a Life Coach, Reiki Master Teacher, and business owner of Letting Go and Loving I Am LLC.

Spark Five

June of 2023, I lost health insurance. I worked 8 months unable to get prescription medication as edema spread all over the bottom half of my body and symptoms of menopause. March 2024 I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. I could have truly used the support of the only immediate family I had left, however.

“In life, you must always be prepared.”

May 9, 2024, my sister would have me in court attempting to put me out of a house, we both owned. This was a bully tactic of hers, although, I couldn’t afford an attorney I completed the alphabet and numbers 1 through 12 with the amount of evidence I presented.

I’ve accepted all that I’ve been through, and I acknowledged the lessons in them.

Life is about living while staying connected to your higher being and acknowledging the true power of words, My total health depended on what I viewed and believed.

My diagnosis could surely be mentally draining; it would surely be triumphant over me if I allowed it to be.

“A person's life is about the words they speak over themselves and the thoughts they feel. The words and opinions from others they accept of themselves, as well as words that can result in a negative reaction. You have the last say so over your life. Your friend or companion can only motivate and may help calm you, but the last decision is always yours. There will be times when you will have to go through situations alone. Therefore, always stay ready by the words you let create your next move.”

My mental state has not always been on this level; there were many days I had to fight, and some days I still do. Each event in my life only fed the sparks—my purpose must be grand. Some fires go out by themselves, but my purpose is too fierce for it to end right now.
