From Clown to CEO: How Every Job Shaped My Journey to Entrepreneurship

by Ciara Lewis

Growing up I had a mixture of jobs. Starting my first career as a babysitter, a clown party hostess, customer service, sandwich making, sales, management and eventually a business owner. In the mix of it all, I also became a mother; which has its own responsibilities. All of these career paths helped me in so many different ways in being able to start and run my own business. I knew there were a lot of things I needed to know in order to run a business.

In the mix of my careers, I had also experienced great/bad management. Each one leaving behind a mark and a constant reminder. I learned from each of them, not only shaping me for the management positions I took, but also how I started and ran my own business. My last job was an opportunity my best friends mom gave me. She gave me the opportunity to run her behavioral health company as her Office manager and Billing Manager. She took me under her wing and formed me into a top notch Manager. She made me take full responsibility, and treat it like it was my own business.

All my past careers and past relationships with management have helped shape me into the entrepreneur I am today. I learned how to listen to people, communicate with people, manage people, plan, manage time etc… I wouldn’t be where I am today if it werent for all my past jobs , managers and of course the ones who believed in me. This experience helps remind me that we can even learn from the bad experiences. We can always take the bad and turn into the good.
