When life felt like survival mode and my creative projects were collecting dust, I knew something had to change. By layering small rituals and mindset shifts, I built DreamNudge, a system that fuels me with clarity and energy instead of burnout.
For years, I was in survival mode. Between working two jobs and keeping up with everything in my personal life, and then my creative projects, the very things that give me joy were collecting dust. That gap created a cycle of overwhelm: the more I avoided them, the more guilty I felt, and the harder it became to start. I wasn’t lazy; I was simply frozen under the weight of too much to do.
But deep down, I knew change was possible. I’d heard stories of people who, even in busy or demanding circumstances, still managed to carve out balance. Their examples reminded me that I didn’t have to choose between responsibility and creativity, I could create a rhythm that allowed space for both.
So I started experimenting. I layered on small habits, took off the ones that didn’t serve me, and kept refining. I tried therapy-inspired journaling prompts, mindset shifts, and tools that helped me face my fears instead of avoiding them. At the same time, I began studying the psychology of goal-setting and how our brains actually get things done. I learned that breaking down big dreams into smaller, actionable steps is the key to avoiding procrastination. That’s where the DreamNudge framework was born: setting Dream Goals (the vision you’re reaching toward) and pairing them with Nudge Actions (the small, doable steps that move you forward).
Instead of just writing “finish screenplay” on a to-do list and feeling paralyzed, I started project-managing my creative dreams, breaking them into pieces I could actually move on each day. Slowly, I created a system that preserved my energy, supported my mindset, and gave me the structure to be less of a thinker and more of a doer. That system became DreamNudge.
Here’s how it works:
Plan Tomorrow, Tonight
Instead of leaving decisions to “morning-me,” I spend ten minutes before bed writing down a draft of tomorrow’s todo list. By the next morning, there’s no decision fatigue. I just step into the plan I’ve already created and tweak it a little as I go.
Journal in the Morning
Each morning, I use the DreamNudge Clarity Catcher, a freewriting journal practice where I pour out all the mental clutter. From to-dos to worries, I let everything spill onto the page. Then I circle what feels heavy and use reframing prompts from the DreamNudge Trouble Shoot Sheet (like: Is this thought a fact, or just a fear?) to shift it into something lighter. That simple practice has been a game-changer, clearing my head before the day even begins.
Think in 7 Thankfuls
Another powerful energy booster has been writing down seven things I’m grateful for every morning. At first, it felt too small to matter, but over time it completely reframed how I moved through the day. Instead of slipping into a sense of doom, I began focusing on what there was to appreciate. My brain stopped scanning for stressors and started scanning for things that gave me energy. That simple, consistent practice fuels me in a way that truly lasts.
Visualize the Life You’re Creating
Alongside gratitude, I use quick visualization exercises to anchor my mindset. I imagine what my life will look like a year from now if I stay the same, then picture the version of myself I want to grow into instead. Finally, I visualize the energy I want to embody that day whether it’s focus, confidence, or creativity. This practice helps me step into the day intentionally, not reactively, and keeps my goals connected to who I’m becoming.
End with Reflection
At the end of the day, I pause for a quick reflection: What moved forward? What drained me? What am I proud of? This helps me reset instead of carrying unfinished stress into tomorrow. It creates a rhythm of momentum without burnout.
Together, these rituals with planning, clarity journaling, gratitude, visualization, and reflection form the heart of DreamNudge. It isn’t a hustle method. It’s a soft, structured system that turns dream-chasing into daily action.
The surprising discovery? It doesn’t just organize my time, it gives me energy. When my brain isn’t weighed down by indecision, doubts, or distractions, I have more room for creativity, joy, and presence.
DreamNudge grew out of a season when I felt stuck, but it taught me something powerful: energy doesn’t just come from doing more. It comes from creating the right rhythm, one that leaves space for your dreams.
