My Easy Mascara Routine

My Easy Mascara Routine by Creative Contour By Carla, LLC. Hey beauties, thanks so much for reading my article on She Rises! My name is Carla, Owner and Founder of Creative Contour By Carla, LLC.! I am a Boston, MA based makeup artist. I am a licensed esthetician and have been in the makeup industry since 2013, and started Creative Contour by Carla, LLC., in 2017! It is my mission to help you love makeup again, whether you sit in my chair, or I show you how to apply.

Today I want to teach you the easiest mascara routine around! Here’s what you’ll need: your favorite mascara, a tool to curl your lashes, and a standalone mirror. Some folks like a traditional eyelash curler, and I’ve even seen some of my clients use a spoon to curl their eyelashes! Whatever you use, please make sure to curl your eyelashes safely!

You want to start this routine by having your ideal eye makeup look already applied and set. Then, grab your lash curling tool. If you are like me and are using a traditional eyelash curler, we will be using it to curl twice on each eye. If you are using a spoon for example, my clients say that they do one smooth flick of the wrist and get instantly curled eyelashes! First let’s discuss how to curl with a traditional eyelash curler.

Look directly into the mirror with your eyes open. Try your best to get your eyelash curler as close to your natural eyelash line as possible. We want to start here because this is the base of our eyelashes and where we will get the most lift. Once you have your eyelash curler sitting directly on your natural eyelash line, it’s time to curl. Gently squeeze the eyelash curler at the base of your eyelash line. You’ll want to ease into giving a good grip. Hold for at least 10 seconds. Feel free to make this a slow count of 10 and up. The longer you hold, the more lift you’ll get. Once you have your 10 count, release and move the eyelash curler to the end tips of your eyelashes. Now, you want to do the exact same step of the end tips. This is where we get our natural curl and creates a flirty, open eye. Gently squeeze your eyelash curler, hold your slow 10 count and release. Once you release, immediately grab your mascara and apply. You want to make sure that you are applying your mascara starting at the natural eyelash line. Grab your mascara wand, place it at the natural eyelash line, and apply. When you are applying, make sure to push up the base just a little to enhance that lift that we just created. Once you have your ideal mascara look, let set and do the same steps on your other eye. You can apply as much mascara as your heart desires, just make sure you let the mascara dry in between coats.

Now, let’s try the spoon curling method that some of my clients swear by! It’s quite easy, and seems to be a method of lash curling that has been passed down for generations of women from diverse backgrounds. I want to take a moment to acknowledge them and thank you for sharing this method with me, as I was unfamiliar with it until they showed me this great hack! What you’ll do is have your eyes open looking into the mirror, and place the side edge of the spoon against your eyelash line. You want to make sure that the rounded part of the spoon is facing outward. And then you hold onto your eyelashes and do a firm flick of the wrist, and voila! Your eyelashes are curled! Then apply your mascara until you reach your desired look. I want to thank my clients for sharing this hack with me, as it is a great alternative for those who are uncomfortable with the eyelash curling tool.

Beauties, I hope you found this helpful! I can’t wait to see you all wearing your beautiful, curled eyelashes! See you soon! Carla B., LLC
