Nothing

As I thought about what to share, “nothing” came to mind. Literally, "I got nothing, was my thought today." As these words sunk in, I was reminded that having nothing can be the very place God wants and shows us His provision and His glory. Oh we may have all the material things, the latest phone, watch, and that time share, but what about our soul? Deep down our soul can ache for more and we realize we don't always measure up. Truth is we unless we have Christ, we honestly have nothing. And indeed in Christ we have nothing to prove or approve of ourselves to Him. All that is of us alone is as filthy rags and meaningless. Emptied of ourselves is the whole point of the gospel, after all when He created the world, He didn't think, "Eh, they are good enough, no need for me.

I will just sit and watch them be awesome." Hardly! We did not even exist until God literally breathed life into dirt and then bones.

If we are honest, we don't want to face the fact that we are nothing in and of ourselves, we don't want to be dependent on God. We want to find some way of proving we have worth, we are strong, totally wise and capable. Over and over again we try to look for some way to not be empty and that usually leads down the road of death. In God's word it says "To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace." Every time we set our mind on ourselves and our accomplishments, it either makes us feel puffed up with pride, or hang our heads in defeat if we do not measure up.

This up and down of emotions and striving is death, it brings our Father no glory and us no good. How hard it is though to sit with the Father and rest in His enough, the cross. The cross rids us of pride, self worth, ego and self righteousness. And oh how painful it is to have these removed daily and denying the flesh. Acknowledging the cross is painful. Yet, when we do, we literally breathe in Christ and His Holy Spirit, so that our "nothing" can be something to be used for His glory. Fixing my mind on Him and His spirit, changes me and releases me to freedom. I hope today you can find time to set your mind on the Spirit and Christ's enough. In the waiting, in the doctor report, in the financial burden, in the wounds from a friend. The cross is enough, Christ is enough, in Him we have all our souls need.
