As a corporate mentalist and entertainer for more than a few decades, I’ve had the pleasure of performing for a variety of high-level audiences. Productivity is a key factor in delivering successful performances and business outcomes. In my work as Randy Charach, corporate mentalist and magician, I've found that the best professionals rely on a few simple systems to deliver successful performances.
The best productivity system starts with planning your weekly outcomes.
Each week, define three key outcomes that will help your business move forward. Break each outcome down into tasks that must be completed and assign each task to a specific person. Prior to every corporate show, I dedicate time to planning the show that will ensure it hits the mark when performed. Use the same planning system for your business.
Next, controlling your time daily will help you achieve the best outcomes for your business.
Use time blocks to dedicate certain hours of the day to specific tasks. For example, dedicate 90 to 120 minutes to deep work in the morning. Use the remainder of the day for meetings, collaboration, and administrative tasks. When I create new material for my shows, I work without any interruptions to maximize my focus on the project.
Limiting daily tasks can improve your outcomes.
Limit your daily priorities to three tasks at the most. Limit the number of projects actively underway in your business. Limit your working hours each day. When I perform on stage each day, I know the time is fixed. This forces me to focus on the elements that will create the best reaction from the audience.
Your work will benefit from this constraint on your daily tasks.
Creating a daily routine that ends each day will help you to remain on track with your tasks.
Prior to going to bed each night, take a few minutes to review what you have accomplished that week. Move any tasks that you began but did not complete to the following day. Define your top three priorities for each day to ensure that you complete your most important tasks.
When I enter the stage each day, I know the show's opening and the acts that I will perform. It’s due to the preparation that I make for each day. Begin each day with the same preparation to ensure success with your business tasks.
Structure your day with focus on high tasks in the morning.
Focus on your most important tasks in the morning. Use the afternoon for follow-ups with team members and other business tasks that require less focus than the tasks performed in the morning. In my performances, I dedicate my strongest material to the time of the show when the audience’s attention is highest.
Apply the same focus to your business.
Building habits that work for your business will allow your outcomes to improve over time.
Begin your day with the same start time each day. Begin with your most important task. Track your outcomes rather than the number of hours that you work. In my company, the best measure of success is the audience response to my performances. The number of hours that I worked to prepare for a performance does not indicate my performance success. Most businesses have similar outcomes.
Creating a feedback system will allow your business to improve.
After each project or each week, define what you did well but also what you would like to change about your business tasks. After each performance, I review my acts to determine what I did well and what I can improve upon in my next performance.
Your environment should support your tasks.
Remove distractions from your environment before you begin to work. Use the same area in your home or office to focus on your business projects. Keep your work area simple. Prior to every performance, my environment is prepared for the day's tasks. Your workspace should be the same.
Finally, managing your energy will help you achieve the best outcomes.
Ensure you get enough sleep each night. Take short breaks between focused work sessions. Avoid working on more than one task at a time. Your energy impacts your business outcomes.
The professionals who work the best in their field rely on a system of time management and organization.
By using the systems described above: planning outcomes each week, time blocking, using constraints, daily shutdown routines, feedback systems, creating the proper environment for your tasks, and managing your energy, you will begin to see the best results from your business tasks.
These systems are used in my performances and corporate environments. Visit my website to learn more about the systems that I use daily in my corporate and entertainment environments: https://randycharach.com.
