The Growth Trap No One Talks About: Why Proven Formulas Are Breaking Women Entrepreneurs
By Louisa Marie

There is no shortage of business advice for ambitious women. There are 10-step blueprints, six-figure frameworks, and every flavor of "done-for-you" growth formula imaginable. And yet the burnout rates among women entrepreneurs continue to climb. The overwhelm is deafening. The question no one is asking loudly enough is: if these formulas work so well, why are so many talented, driven women still running on empty?
Here's the truth I tell my clients: the formula was never built for you.
Most generic business growth blueprints operate on a fantasy that the person following them has unlimited time, boundless energy, and a life that pauses conveniently while they scale. They don't account for the founder who is also the primary caregiver. They don't account for anxiety, ADHD, chronic illness, or the very human reality that some seasons demand more of us than others.
I know this intimately. Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I worked with a business coach whose growth strategy leaned heavily on in-person networking. When I explained that I could only attend events when I had childcare, he told me that was a "limiting belief." Let me be direct: needing childcare is not a limiting belief. It is a real constraint. When coaches and systems fail to distinguish between the two, they don't just give bad advice. They manufacture shame.
That is not sustainable growth. That is survival dressed up as strategy.
Sustainable growth is not slower growth. It is smarter, more intentional growth designed around who you actually are.
Building a business sustainably means designing your systems, goals, offers, and boundaries to fit within your real capacity, your real values, and your real life. Not the life someone else's framework assumes you have.
Before applying any growth plan, I guide my clients through what I call radical clarity – a clear-eyed assessment of three things: the current state of their business (where time, energy, and money are actually going), their goals (personal and professional, and whether the two are aligned), and their real needs (what energizes them, what depletes them, and what they are simply not willing to sacrifice).
Two founders with identical revenue goals can need completely different paths to get there based on their personalities, nervous systems, and life circumstances. A growth strategy that ignores those differences is not a strategy. It's a template.
I also challenge the culture of extreme goal-setting. "10x in six months" might inspire some founders. For others, it sets them up to dismiss a genuine 2x win as failure. I work in tiers – good, better, best, because sustainable goals are actionable, flexible, and rooted in your reality, not someone else's highlight reel.

The most liberating shift I've witnessed in my clients comes when they stop trying to fit someone else's picture of success and start building from their own. The business becomes lighter. Decisions come faster. Energy returns. That clarity is not a soft outcome – it is a strategic advantage.
Growth that costs you your peace is not growth worth having.
And what costs you your peace is deeply personal. That is exactly why the formula that gave your mentor financial freedom might feel like a prison to you.
Your business does not need another blueprint. It needs you! Your values, your energy, your ethics, and your vision at the center of every decision.
When we build from there, growth doesn't just happen. It sustains.
