The Question That Changed How I See Success: How one unexpected conversation with AI reshaped my understanding of legacy, leadership, and impact

My very first business didn’t just fail… it failed horribly. But something in me wouldn’t let it go. That entrepreneurial spirit kept growing, pushing, like it had to come out no matter what. After battling cancer, I knew I had to return to it. I was determined to make it work, to keep going at all costs. And now, when I think about legacy, it hits differently. Legacy, to me, is not what I build for myself, but what continues through others because I showed them what was possible.
As an AI strategist, I work with different large language models. One day, I asked a simple question: “Based on what you know about me, if I were on a magazine cover, what would it say?” The title it gave me was… Legacy. I paused. Because that’s not how I had been seeing myself.
One of the bold subtitles it generated was: “Visionary Advantage: How she’s shaping the future through education, leadership, and unstoppable purpose.” I had never described myself that way. Yet somehow, through everything I’ve done, built, and planned, that is what it saw. Another line read: “Women who build legacies, not just careers.” That one stayed with me.
Because now I see it. This is no longer just about business. This is about impact. This is about something that outlives me. It even described me as building generational impact, and for the first time, I thought… yes. That is exactly what I am doing.
This is what I want my nieces to see. I want them to know they are not only beautiful, resourceful, and powerful, but capable of using their minds to accomplish the unthinkable and pave the way for those coming behind them. That by setting the right goals now, they can build a future where the pieces come together with intention. I want my cousins to notice and say, “Wait… what are you doing? Can I be part of that too?” Above all, I want my family to beam with pride.
That is what leadership means to me. It is about showing up consistently. It is not rushing to the top. I have learned that success does not come overnight. I am building something solid. Something real. I am taking the time to form the right connections, speak to the right people, and ensure the message reaches who it is meant for, at the right time.
I am building something sustainable. I stay aware, ready to pivot when needed, because you cannot stay stuck. You have to keep moving, like the waves of the sea. Always moving. Always adjusting. That is how leadership is sustained over time.
The truth is, the values guiding me now are the same ones that have always guided me. They were instilled in me from the beginning. Growing up in a Southern family, rooted in faith and grounded in God’s Word. Love for God. Love for others. Love for self. These are not just ideas. They are anchors. They shape every interaction, every decision. Because without them… what are we really building?

It is easy to chase quick money. And yes, it can come fast. But it can leave just as quickly. What lasts is what is built with intention. What is built with care. What is built not just for you, but for others too. That is where real, sustainable success comes from. And when I step back now, I can see how it all comes full circle.
That is leadership with vision. That is legacy. And that is the life I am choosing to build… every single day.
