The Strategy That Changed Everything: Choosing Courage Over Comfort

I'm Beverly Flores, and I empower leaders and organizations to courageously shatter perceived limitations, connect deeply with their authentic power, and achieve extraordinary success in business and life. My proven, purposeful, EEI-driven (Energy, Enthusiasm, and Intensity) approach is rooted in over two decades of Fortune 100 strategic leadership, but the strategy that defines my work today wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born from a choice—a place of courage and resilience.

For 24 years, I built a successful career. I helped transform a manufacturing giant into a technology leader, built PR campaigns that led to exposure and a keynote for the CEO at high-profile events like CES, and led advertising campaigns that earned 10 NAMA awards and a Google Partner of the Quarter award. From the outside, it was the picture of success. Inside, I felt a growing conflict with how we worked and lived.

The path to founding Thyme Out Consulting was unveiled during a pivotal moment: a corporate restructuring left me with a severance package and, quite frankly, a needed change. It was a welcoming pathway forward. This came after some challenging years where I experienced a growing conflict with my own values of leadership, balanced against the desire for security to provide for my family.

This was the strategy that changed everything: I had to make a choice.

The "comfortable" option was clear: find another secure corporate job. But I knew this "security" was actually limiting my potential. I had to choose: return to corporate life, or courageously pursue what I knew was my true calling and passion.

I chose courage. I chose to believe in myself!

My conviction is this: every day offers us choices, and not choosing is a choice. As professionals, leaders, and most of all PEOPLE, I believe we have a responsibility to embrace our potential and to help others do the same. Too often, we leave this potential locked away, safe within our sense of security. Driven by this philosophy, I decided to build a business that challenged the status quo of development from the ground up and with the belief that our sense of security can keep us from more.

Finding the name "Thyme Out Consulting" was its own journey. I wanted it to signify possibility. My oldest son’s thoughtful suggestion led me to research plants representing courage and strength.

"Thyme," an herb historically symbolizing courage and strength, was perfect. When combined with the sports concept of a "timeout"—a strategic pause for success—'Thyme Out Consulting' was born.

This became my framework. My strategy is to help leaders take that strategic "Thyme Out" to build a new operating system based on their authentic values: Energy, Enthusiasm, and Intensity (EEI). This isn't just about career metrics; it’s about work-life alignment and integration. I coach clients to create deep personal and professional connections that fill them with energy, inspiring them to achieve extraordinary business and career success—including measurable growth in team engagement, resilience, and strategic alignment.

My corporate experience and my own development and leadership are the foundation for this work. It taught me how to drive change, strategy, and communication. It also showed me countless examples of how—and how not—to treat people.

The most powerful validation of this strategy didn't come from a client; it came from my sons. As a single mother, everything I do is an example for my sons. How I respond to challenges, to life, defines how they learn to live. After I started Thyme Out, I saw my teenage sons choose to build their own business. When I asked them about it, they said, "We saw you do it, so we figured we could too." This is what leadership is about!

That is the ripple effect of authentic success. The real measure of success isn't just your business outcomes, but the ripple effect your courage creates. It’s about showing others a path forward and helping them embrace their potential.

Onwards and Upwards.
